The honest starting point

There is no single best product, and any shop that tells you otherwise is selling rather than advising. What there is: a set of practical differences between formats that genuinely narrow the choice. Those are worth understanding before you spend money.

The five differences that actually matter

1. How fast it arrives

Inhaled formats — flower, pre-rolls, vapes, concentrates — take effect within minutes. That makes them far easier to judge: you can take a little, wait, and decide.

Edibles typically take 30 minutes to 2 hours, longer on a full stomach. You commit to the dose before you know how it lands, which is why starting low matters more here than anywhere else.

2. How long it lasts

Roughly the inverse. Inhaled effects fade sooner; eaten cannabis lasts considerably longer. Neither is better — it depends entirely on what your day looks like.

3. How precisely you can dose

Edibles win outright: a 10mg gummy is 10mg every time. Flower is inherently variable session to session. Vapes sit in between. If consistency matters to you, that alone may decide it.

4. Discretion and practicality

Vapes and edibles carry no smell and need no equipment. Flower needs somewhere you can smoke and something to smoke it with. Pre-rolls remove the equipment problem but not the smell one. Concentrates need hardware and some experience.

5. What it costs against your allotment

This is the one most people miss, and it is genuinely useful. Mississippi counts formats differently:

  • Flower and plain pre-rolls are charged by weight — 3.5g = 1 MMECU flat, whatever the THC percentage. Since the state caps plain flower at 30% THC, flower near that ceiling is the most THC you can get per unit of allotment.
  • Edibles, vapes and topicals are charged on total THC in milligrams — 1,000mg = 1 MMECU. A 100mg pack is a tenth of an eighth of flower.
  • Concentrates, and anything infused, are charged on actual THC mass: grams × THC%. A 0.5g jar at 59% is 295mg, so 0.295 MMECU.

Every product page here shows both numbers, and your cart totals them as you go. The allotment checker compares specific baskets.

“What's best for sleep?” — and why we won't answer that

It is the question we're asked most, and you'll find plenty of dispensaries publishing confident answers to it. We're not going to, and it's worth explaining why rather than just dodging.

Mississippi's is a medical programme. You were certified by a practitioner for a qualifying condition, and that practitioner — not a retailer — is who should be advising on what to use for it. Beyond that, effects vary enormously between individuals, between batches of the same strain, and with tolerance. A confident claim about what a product will do for you is not something anyone behind a counter can honestly make.

What we can do, and will: tell you exactly what is in a product, who grew or made it, what the lab results say, what its terpene profile is, and how other patients have described it. Then you decide, ideally with your practitioner's guidance. If you want to understand the underlying chemistry, our terpene guide is a good starting point, and the indica/sativa/hybrid guide explains where that familiar framework holds up and where it doesn't.

A sensible first purchase

If you want a concrete recommendation rather than a framework: buy one thing, in the smallest size, and come back. A single pre-roll or one low-dose pack of edibles tells you more about what suits you than any amount of reading, and costs little if it turns out not to.

Common questions

What is the difference between flower, edibles and vapes?

Mainly how fast they arrive and how long they last. Inhaled formats — flower, pre-rolls, vapes — take effect within minutes and are easier to judge as you go. Edibles take 30 minutes to 2 hours and last considerably longer. Vapes are the most portable and discreet; edibles are the most precisely dosed.

Which product is best for a beginner?

Most first-timers do well starting with either a single pre-roll or a low-dose edible, because neither requires equipment or guesswork about quantity. If you would rather not inhale anything, start with edibles and read the onset timing first.

Which format is most efficient against my allotment?

It depends on the format's counting basis. Flower is charged flat at 3.5g per MMECU regardless of THC percentage, so higher-potency flower up to the 30% state cap is the best value. Edibles, vapes and concentrates are charged on actual THC in milligrams. Our allotment checker compares a specific basket.

Can you tell me what to use for a specific condition?

No — and be wary of any dispensary that will. We are a retailer, not a medical provider, and Mississippi restricts health claims in this industry for good reason. What a product does for one patient often differs for another. That conversation belongs with the practitioner who certified you; we can tell you exactly what is in a product and how other patients have described it.
